About Vaginoplasty

Ladies in this day and age have a lot to worry about, and at Pearl GYN Aesthetic Gynecology, we don't want discomfort and low self-esteem caused by stretched vaginal walls to be one of them. Vaginoplasty (also called surgical vaginal revitalization or reshaping) is a surgical procedure used to tighten and strengthen the walls of the vagina, which may become lax over time due to childbirth, age, genetics, or significant weight loss. At our Coral Springs, FL office, board-certified gynecologist Dr. Robert Pearl offers surgical vaginal revitalization to tighten the vagina and/or reshape the inner and outer labia. If you are uncomfortable with the appearance of your vagina or you experience vaginal pain or soreness, schedule a consultation with Dr. Pearl to learn more about vaginoplasty at Pearl GYN Aesthetic Gynecology.

Ideal Candidates

During a consultation with Dr. Pearl, he will decide if you are a good candidate for vaginoplasty. Your age, medical history and aesthetic goals will be assessed and considered at this appointment before Dr. Pearl can build your custom treatment plan. You could be a candidate for a vaginoplasty if you:

  • Wish to increase your sexual satisfaction
  • Are seeking to restore your self-confidence
  • Are intimidated by the thought of wearing tight or revealing clothing, like bathing suits
  • Experience pain or soreness during sex or other activities
  • Feel that your vaginal muscles did not recover after childbirth
  • Have a naturally large vaginal opening
  • Suffer from vaginal laxity
  • Were given an episiotomy during childbirth

Surgical Technique

The vaginoplasty procedure removes the loose vaginal lining and tightens the area's soft tissues and muscles. The procedure is usually performed as an outpatient procedure, in an accredited surgical center under general anesthesia. It will begin with Dr. Pearl creating incisions in discreet locations on the sides of the vagina and then gently tightening the muscle tissue beneath the skin. The vaginal opening will also be reduced in size by removing a portion of vaginal lining (mucosa). If you will be combining your vaginoplasty with a labiaplasty, Dr. Pearl will perform that surgery following the vaginoplasty. At the end of the procedure(s), Dr. Pearl will carefully close the incisions for optimal results and minimal scarring.

What to Expect

You can expect a bit of pain and tenderness following the surgery. Swelling and bruising are also common following a vaginoplasty procedure. It is recommended that you avoid sexual intercourse, tampon use, or strenuous exercise for about 4 – 6 weeks. In most circumstances, you will be able to return to seated work in about a week with a full return to daily activities at around three months. After recovering from the surgical procedure, you can expect a renewed vaginal opening that looks and feels slimmer and tighter. Some patients even report heightened sensitivity and increased friction during intercourse.
